Gary Sohl was born and raised in Montana and majored in art at Montana State University with a B.S. degree in Art. After a summer of art studies in Paris and traveling in Europe, he moved to southern California and began a long career in both commercial design and fine art. He now concentrates solely on his first love, fine art.
His plein air painting trips throughout the western United States and Canada have been a primary source of his unique, bold landscapes in oils or acrylics. Whether using brush or palette knife, his use of pure, dramatic strokes of color has become his signature trademark.
Gary is a member of the prestigious Art-A-Fair festival in Laguna Beach and has previously shown at the Quorum Gallery in Laguna Beach and the Corner Gallery in Huntington Beach. Sohl has won numerous first place and best-of-show awards in exhibitions throughout the area and his paintings adorn many private collections.
